Union leaders and land rights activists arrested

11 people were arrested and sent to Phnom Penh Police Headquarter this morning, January 21, 2014, when they were gathering in front of the U.S. and French Embassy to submit their petitions calling for intervention to release the 23 ( human rights defenders and workers) who have been detained in the Correction Center 3 (CC3) in Kampong Cham province.

The arrested include union leaders, land rights activists, Boeung Kak, and Thmor Kol community—Rong Chhun, Long Kim Heang, Tep Vanny, Yorm Bopha, Song Sreyleap, Pov Sophea, Phan Chhunreth, Phuong Sopheap, Ngoun Kimlang, Cheang Thyda, and Erm Srey Touch.

The arrested were then released at about 1: 45 PM on the same day in an exchange for an agreement that they (1) must become a good citizen, (2) stop committing any crime (បទល្មើស) prohibited by laws, (3) stop participating in, leading, inciting [people] to protest/demanding, and stop illegal demonstration (sic!), and (4) immediately cooperating in reporting to authorities when they are aware of, notice/see, anyone who act illegally.
